GC Welcomes New Women's Volleyball Head Coach

Georgetown College Vice President for Athletics Chris Oliver announced James (J.P.) Rader as the Tigers’ seventh head coach of the women’s volleyball program.
“I'm excited to introduce J.P. Rader as the head coach of our women's volleyball program,” Oliver said. “Coach Rader brings a wealth of experience to our program, both as a successful collegiate head coach and during his time at the high school and club level internationally and domestically. His tenure as head coach at Asbury University saw the program reach an exceptional level of performance. He has an appreciation for the Tiger women's volleyball program's competitiveness during that same timeframe, as well as a strong vision for how we can work to achieve that level once again. I look forward to welcoming J.P. Rader to our department as we strive to further develop our student-athletes on and off the court.”
Rader makes his way to Georgetown after his most recent collegiate head coaching role saw him serve seven seasons at Asbury University from 2009-2016.
“I am extremely excited and humbled to be selected as the next head coach of women’s volleyball at Georgetown,” Rader said. “Georgetown has an outstanding tradition of excellence in women’s volleyball that will be the foundation we build on as we move the program forward. I am excited to have the opportunity to get to know the student-athletes and work this spring with them as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
While leading the Eagles, Rader amassed an impressive overall record of 218-73 which included a 66-12 mark in Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) play.
During the 2011-12 campaign, Rader guided the Eagles to the most wins, 42, in school history and still holds the record for the top four winningest seasons with his 37 wins in 2014 and his 34-win and 33-win seasons in 2013 and 2010, respectively.
Rader also brings a winning culture, claiming four KIAC Regular Season Championships in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014 while hoisting the KIAC Tournament trophy in 2013. Rader’s winning ways saw him earn the KIAC Coach of the Year in both the 2010 and 2013 seasons.
Prior to coaching at Asbury, Rader lived internationally in Seoul, South Korea where he was the Athletic Director and head girls’ volleyball coach at Seoul Foreign School (SFS) from 1989 to 2008. At SFS, Rader collected a 306-73 overall record over his 19 seasons coaching volleyball which included a perfect 25-0 run during the 2008-09 season.
Rader and his team’s won 12 Korean-American Interscholastic Activities Conference titles and eight tournament titles in his time at the helm. He was named KAIAC Coach of the Year three times in 2001, 2003 and 2009.
Since leaving Asbury in 2016, Rader has continued his career in education, serving as the Secondary School Principal at Gyeonggi Suwon International School in Suwon, South Korea from 2016 to 2019. From 2019 to 2024 Rader served as the Head of School at International Community School in Singapore.
