ON WE GO! – November 15, 2017

Yesterday was a day with a special component seldom matched in the history of Georgetown College. One of our own, Mrs. Jane Hope Fields, celebrated her 100th birthday! What a milestone, what an achievement, what a lady! This past Sunday afternoon, dozens of her family and friends gathered with her for a party planned by her sons Ben and Robin, and, by all accounts, it was a well-earned and roaring celebration. Family and friends have meant so much to her, as has her relationship with Georgetown College. It is certainly not often that we have a 100-year-old still taking the initiative to call a ‘younger set’ of Georgetonians, those who are at least 80 years old, and wish them happy birthday on behalf of the College.
In my years at Georgetown, I have been in Jane Hope’s presence many times, and found her always quick to thank her Lord and to reminisce about the blessings in her long life. Her positive outlook and joyful spirit are always uplifting to me. Indeed, through Jane Hope, many people have been blessed. I am thrilled with the thought that her influence is now spreading into a second century!
