ON WE GO! – May 23, 2018

Submitted on May 23, 2018

Over the course of my career in higher education, there have been several times that I was aware of instances of extraordinary dedication by students, faculty, or staff. In recent days, I have learned of one such episode that may well top all others that I recall.

At the Georgetown College graduation on the beautiful morning of Saturday, May 12, one of our faculty members, Dr. Karla Francioni, came to the graduation while she was in labor with her first child. Karla is an assistant professor, and director of our Athletic Training program.  She felt that it was important to be present and to celebrate with her students, so she came to the ceremony. As nature moved things along, she had to leave the ceremony early in order to get to the hospital.

Born at 3:08 p.m. that afternoon, and weighing in at 7.2 pounds and 19 inches long, was Lana Jolene Francioni.  I am thrilled to report that mother and daughter are doing well!
