ON WE GO! – March 7, 2018

Submitted on March 7, 2018

Awakening this morning, I saw a beautiful early morning snowfall. In response, my first thought was, ‘Well, this is March,’ with its unpredictability as winter tries to move away, and spring tries to enter. There are some peculiar things about March. For example, it is the only month with three consecutive consonants in its name in English; it is famous for its ‘Ides’; it is the only month that has the reputation of ‘in like a lion, out like a lamb’; it is now the month with ‘madness’ as part of its identity, i.e., basketball’s ‘March Madness.’ To all of these items, we also add that even time itself changes in March, as Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 11th --- and we actually give college students an entire week off in the middle of a semester – in March.

These are enough oddities for any one month, but we can all take solace in knowing that March will end, followed by Easter Sunday on April 1. Hallelujah!
