ON WE GO! - Weekly President's Perspective from Dr. Greene

ON WE GO! – January 3, 2018

Submitted on January 3, 2018

One of the great Christians of the twentieth century was the Reverend Dr. Peter Marshall, pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. In 1946, Dr. Marshall was appointed as Chaplain to the United States Senate, and he remained in that position until his sudden death of a heart attack in 1949. His wife, Catherine, wrote a biography of her husband, entitled A Man Called Peter, which was later developed into a feature film.

My recent reading has included selections from a book of Prayers of Peter Marshall offered during his time as Senate Chaplain. For my first Perspective of 2018, and as nourishment for our souls, I include below the brief prayer he offered on January 10, 1947:

Lord Jesus, Thou has promised to give us the Holy Spirit if we are willing to open our hearts and let Him in. Make us willing now that things of eternal significance may begin to happen here. We know deep down in our hearts that without Thy guidance we can do nothing, but with Thee we can do all things. Let us not be frightened by  the problems that confront us, but rather give Thee thanks that Thou has matched us with this hour. May we resolve, God helping us, to be part of the answer, and not part of the problem. For Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Happy New Year Blessings to everyone!
