Georgetown College Welcomes Largest Freshman Class on Record
Submitted on September 2, 2020
With the start of the fall 2020 academic year, Georgetown College is proud to welcome its largest incoming class on record. This fall, the college welcomes 460 new students, 426 of whom are freshmen. In the face of trying times related to COVID-19, students continue to choose Georgetown in record numbers, trusting in the championship-level education of the heart and mind that the college provides.
“It is a thrill to welcome this record-breaking incoming class to Georgetown College!” exclaimed President Will Jones. “They are beginning their journey of a championship-level education of the mind and heart that will be transformational for them. I can’t wait to see the exciting things this class will achieve at Georgetown.”
This year’s class builds on an upward enrollment trend. Last year’s incoming class was the largest incoming class in a decade with 318 incoming freshmen. This year’s 426 incoming freshmen far exceeds that number and indicates a period of exciting growth at Georgetown College.
The new freshman class also builds on last year’s by again being one of the most diverse and academically qualified classes in the last ten years. In addition to bringing an increase in diversity and academic qualification, the incoming class also comes from a wider array of different countries and states. In total, six countries not including the United States are represented by students in this class, and 13 states not including Kentucky are represented. In-state students come from 65 different counties across Kentucky.
As students look for an education that will give them results and help them achieve that crucial first job after graduation, they look at GC as the top choice. For the third consecutive year, the college has been named the best college in Ky for students getting a job or into graduate school within six months of graduation. This recognition has students flocking to GC, ready for the transformational education the college provides.
“It’s going to be an incredibly exciting fall at GC!” said Vice President of Enrollment Management, Dr. Jonathan Sands Wise. “Welcoming this record-breaking, diverse, and incredibly talented class shows that students and families crave what Georgetown College has to offer – a truly exceptional education in a Christian setting. Students at GC are challenged to grow academically, personally, and spiritually, and we’re so excited to welcome this new group of students into the GC family and to see that growth over the next four years.”
Georgetown College looks forward to the successes this incoming class will celebrate and the impact each of these new students will make on the world and their community.
