High School students with an exceptional interest in mathematics and the natural sciences are invited to apply for admission to this coming summer’s PAEMS, Georgetown College’s Pre-College Academic Experience in Math and Science. This 13-day residential program, now in its 28th year, gives academically motivated sophomore (10th), junior (11th), and senior (12th) high school students an educational opportunity not normally available in secondary schools.
All successful applicants will enjoy a college-like experience living on campus in a residence hall staffed by student resident assistants and supervised by faculty. In the classroom, in the laboratory, and in field environments, students will work side-by-side with Georgetown College faculty. Over meals, at breaks, during field trips, and through supplemental activities, they will form close, positive, and supportive relationships with professors and staff members, as well as their peers, to enhance their campus life experience.
Sponsored by the College’s Natural Life and Science Division, the program features such hands-on topics as astronomy, biology, chemistry, environmental science, mathematics, statistics, and computing. PAEMS challenges students academically, stimulating their interests in math and science, fostering creativity, and promoting a team concept to problem-solving.
No credit is offered. It is “fun while learning” without the pressure of achieving a grade. Space is limited.
