The Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science at Georgetown College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics beginning August 2019.  A Ph.D. in Physics is preferred; ABD or a Master’s degree in the field is required.  The term of appointment is for the 2019-2020 academic year with potential for renewal. Georgetown College is a private liberal arts institution in Central Kentucky serving approximately 1000 undergraduates.  We offer majors in Mathematics and Physics along with minors in these fields, as well as a data-science oriented minor in Computer Science.  In cooperation with the University of Kentucky we sponsor a 3-2 Engineering transfer program.  Due to the pending retirement of one of our two physics professors, the Physics and Pre-Engineering programs are under review.  We seek a visiting colleague who can support these programs during this period and contribute to the review and potential restructuring of the program.   After the completion of program review and restructuring, the position may convert to a tenure-track position, for which the visiting colleague may apply. The successful candidate should be able to teach a variety of upper-level courses in Physics to serve existing Physics majors and pre-Engineering students.  Depending on enrollment patterns it may also be possible to teach first-year physics.  The teaching load is the equivalent of four three-hour courses per semester.  Within the context of our teaching-oriented mission, scholarship and professional development are encouraged and supported.  Please submit a cover letter, vita, copies of transcripts, statement of teaching philosophy, and three letters of recommendation to provost@georgetowncollege.edu.  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  Georgetown College does not discriminate, either in the admission of students, hiring and promotion of employees,  or in the administration of any of its educational policies, programs, or activities on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age or disability.  The College may use religion as a factor in making faculty employment decisions and in Board of Trustees appointments. The College embraces diversity and encourages women and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply. More information about the college can be found at www.georgetowncollege.edu
